GHCA Winter Convention a Success

The 2017 GHCA/GCAL Winter Convention & Trade Show, held last week at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel in Atlanta, was filled with top-notch education and excellent networking opportunities. GHCA was excited to have over 400 individuals attending the convention and learning fresh ideas and new strategies to navigate their center to excellence in 2017. At the convention, we were honored to have Gov. Nathan Deal with us as our special guest. He kicked off Tuesday’s sessions with a presentation to our members regarding the year ahead. On Wednesday, GHCA recognized quite a few members for their achievements during the Stars in Long Term Care Awards Ceremony. Congratulations to our Leadership Excellence Award winners: Toni Davis, Leadership Excellence Award Winner Brian Hart, Leadership Innovation Award Winner Barbara Mitchell, Leadership in Public Confidence Award Winner We also would like to congratulate our Emergency Preparedness/Engineering & Environmental Services Award winners: Susie Fussell, Emergency Preparedness Champion in Long Term Care Luke Brooks, Engineering & Environmental Services Champion of Long Term Care We were honored to have Paul Ossmann as our emcee for the ceremony once again and Miss GHCA, JoAnn Blackwell, as our special guest. June was an exciting month for GHCA. Our Summer Convention was held on Amelia Island mid-month and was a huge success. Kerry Smith Chosen as a Future Long Term and Post-Acute Care Leader

The Georgia Health Care Association and Georgia Center for Assisted Living (GHCA/GCAL) announced this week that Kerry Smith has been chosen by the American Health Care Association and the National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) as a future leader in long term and post-acute care. Smith will join the Association’s Future Leaders program, a year-long program that offers training and guidance for long term and post-acute care professionals. “AHCA/NCAL is dedicated to offering skilled nursing professionals who are providing high quality care the opportunity to enhance their leadership skills,” said Mark Parkinson, President & CEO of AHCA/NCAL. “We look forward to seeing Kerry and the entire Future Leaders class apply these newly-acquired skills to improve the well-being of individuals within long term and post-acute care.” “Kerry’s dedication to quality care and strong leadership skills make him an excellent candidate for the AHCA/NCAL Future Leaders program,” said Tony Marshall, GHCA/GCAL President & CEO. “We look forward to watching him enhance these skills and apply them within GHCA/GCAL, AHCA/NCAL, and long term and post-acute care.” Smith is the Administrator of New Horizons Lanier Park in Gainesville, GA, and also serves as director of Long Term Care at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Registration for Annual GANLTC Conference Now Open

Registration is now open for the annual GANLTC Conference  at the Savannah Riverfront Marriott in Savannah, September 26-30.  Registrants who register by August 1 will be entered into a drawing for a mini iPAD!  Room rates are $164 and the deadline for reserving your room under the GANLTC block is August 25.  Don’t delay—we are expecting a record breaking number of attendees and the rooms at our last annual conference quickly sold out.   We have a dynamic agenda planned with a focus on nursing leadership and designed to help attendees excel in this time of healthcare transformation.  Vivian and Mary-Tellis Nayak will present on The Return of Compassion to Healthcare:  The DON’s Role and Dr. Adrienne Mims with Alliant Quality will facilitate a thought provoking and vital discussion on advance care planning and end of  life decisions following the viewing of the highly acclaimed film Being Mortal.  The conference is open to RNs and LPNs and nursing and administrator CEs will be available.  Join us for this important time of professional development and celebration as we honor the RN, LPN and CNA of the Year.
